David Shlomo Diamond was born in Jerusalem, raised in the US, and then returned to Israel as a young man. After a first career as a merchant mariner and subsequent service in the Israel Navy, David studied literature and linguistics at both Haifa University and Hebrew University, with a minor in musicology, in addition to further studies in history, Bible, and religion. He has spent the past two decades teaching languages and language arts at various institutions throughout Latin America, the US, and Israel, in addition to his work as a researcher, translator, and interpreter between English, Hebrew, and Spanish, in which he is also fluent.

David has taught Hebrew at the University of Arizona since 2022 and is currently developing a new curriculum for the Judaic Studies Department’s Hebrew program, informed by his rich experience and, in particular, his training in the latest language acquisition pedagogy through Cambridge University’s CELTA certification.

David strives to empower students through sharpened communication and critical thinking skills, as well as a greater self-awareness and sensitivity to the diversity of human expression. He aims to motivate students to embrace language as the greatest vehicle for self-understanding, perspective expansion, and bridge building. His teaching philosophy is rooted in anticipating and effectively and compassionately addressing the diverse and unique challenges of language acquisition through diversified, science-backed, and engaging content to ensure students not only succeed in their language goals but enjoy the journey of discovery as they partake in the miracle that is speaking the only language ever to be revived as a vernacular, Hebrew.
