Modern Hebrew Faculty
Modern Hebrew is the core of the Judaic Studies major, but many students enroll in Modern Hebrew to fulfill the UA's foreign language requirement. We offer elementary, intermediate and advanced levels of Modern Hebrew. Please contact Uri Maimon, The Hebrew Program Coordinator to determine the level of Hebrew that best suits you.
ELEMENTARY MODERN HEBREW
JUS 103A is the first semester of a full year of Elementary Modern Hebrew and is only offered in the fall semesters. You will learn all facets of the Hebrew language – comprehension, speech, reading, and writing.

JUS 103B is the second semester of a full year of Elementary Modern Hebrew and is only offered in the spring semesters.
In order to register for JUS103B you must have either received a "C" or higher in JUS 103A or have permission from Uri Maimon, the Coordinator of the Hebrew Program.
INTERMEDIATE MODERN HEBREW
JUS 203A is the first course of a full year of Intermediate Modern Hebrew. It is a five-credit course and is only offered only in the Fall semesters. The course emphasizes all facets of the language – listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and, builds upon the completion of Elementary Modern Hebrew courses (JUS103A, JUS103B).
In order to register for JUS203A, students must receive a grade of ‘C’ or higher in JUS 103B, or obtain permission from Uri Maimon, the Coordinator of the Hebrew Program.
JUS 203B is the second course of a full year of Intermediate Modern Hebrew. It is a five-credit course and is offered only in Spring semesters.
ADVANCED MODERN HEBREW
JUS 303A is the first semester of a full year of advanced Modern Hebrew. It is a three-credit course. The course is designed to refine and enhance the language skills that the students acquired in the elementary and intermediate courses.
JUS 303B is the second semester of a full year of advanced Modern Hebrew. Successful completion of JUS303A (a grade of ‘C’ or above), is a prerequisite for enrollment in this course.
