Date:

Dr. Leonard Hammer, David and Andrea Stein Visiting Professor of Modern Israel Studies, the University of Arizona

Israel proposed a Basic Law on National Identity that arguably led to the downfall of the coalition during the latter quarter of 2014. What is this proposed law and what are its potential implications? What does the law really imply and what new aspects might be introduced that can impact on Israel as a Jewish and Democratic state? This lecture shall examine the meaning of Basic Laws, the framework for domestic human rights in Israel, and various provisions of the proposed Basic Law.

The event is free and open to the public.
