The May 2015 Holy See Comprehensive Agreement with the Palestinian Authority: Its meaning and implication for Israel.

Date:

Wed, 03/09/2016 - 16:00

The Holy See signed a Comprehensive Agreement with the Palestinian Authority (PA) in 2015.  In the Agreement, the Holy See officially recognized the State of Palestine. Why did the Holy See enter into an agreement witht the PA at this time and what did the Holy See receive in return from the PA? What impact might the Agreement have on the PA and on Catholics in the Holy Land? What potential effect might the Agreement have on the Vatican's relations with Israel? Further, did the Holy See breach the scope of its own self-imposed limitations in the international relations sphere?

The lecture shall offer insight into the Holy See's international relations perspective and how their approach shifts when engaging the Holy Land. The lecture also shall compare and contrast previous Agreement made between the Holy See and Israel as well as the Palestinians to elucidate and better understand the approaches of the Holy See in the Holy Land.

The speaker for this lecture will be Prof. Leonard Hammer.

This lecture will take place at Hillel on the University of Arizona campus located at 1245 East 2nd street. The lecture will begin at 4 P.M.

Parking will be available at 2nd street garage.
