Elementary Modern Hebrew - JUS 103A & JUS 103B

JUS103A is the first semester of a full year of Elementary Modern Hebrew. It is a five credit course. The course is offered only in fall semesters. JUS103A emphasizes the four language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will achieve basic functional literacy in Hebrew and the understanding of the social and cultural setting within which the language is used. As this is a course for beginners, prior study of the Hebrew language is not required and/or expected. There are no prerequisites for registration to the course.

JUS103B is the second semester of a full year of Elementary Modern Hebrew. It is a five credit course. The course is offered only in spring semesters. Students enrolled in JUS103B are assumed to know the Hebrew alphabet, the writing system, the sound system, simple sentence construction and elementary grammar. The course focuses on expanding the four language skills listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will learn the verb structures and usage in the past tense. Students will read short texts and learn how to converse about daily life situations.  Students will further enhance the understanding of the social and cultural usage of the language.  In order to register for JUS103B, students must receive a grade of ‘C’ or higher in JUS103A, or obtain permission from the instructor.
