Apart from his long and most successful rabbinate at Congregation Anshei Israel, Breger was instrumental in founding many Jewish educational and communal organizations in Tucson and the Southwest.
Among those many institutions was the Judaic Studies Program at The University of Arizona.
This annual lecture honors the memory of Rabbi Marcus Breger, one of Tucson’s leading citizens who was Congregation Anshei Israel’s first rabbi, serving from 1939-1970. The Rabbi Marcus Breger Memorial Lectureship was created in 2011. All lectures are free and open to the public and are held on the campus of The University of Arizona.
The speaker for 2013-2014 will announced in the fall.
